Social Media and Web 2.0 – Part 4

Web Directories

You can grab quick links by submitting your site to web directories. This can build tons and tons of links to your site at the click of a button or you can outsource this. I’m an advocate of automation, I use software called “Auto soft” by GSA, and it costs $49/mo or $150/yr. This is GREAT software to have if your budget allows. You can download a free trial at their website:

http://www.gsa-online.de/eng/softsubmit.html

As I mentioned in an earlier chapter, you can also outsource this to www.submitedge.com. They do all kinds of SEO work for building links to your site. If you’re short on time or simply don’t feel like doing the manual work. This is a company that I recommend!

SEO doesn’t have to be hard, link building is pretty much the only task associated with SEO that dampers my mood sometimes. With services like these, I can focus on other aspects of my business!

Social Bookmarking

This is an easy way to get Backlinks to your site, it’s been around for a while and most of the buzz is dying down, but it is still effective if you choose the right sites to bookmark your site to.

It’s not a good idea to spam the social bookmarking sites but you want to create as many accounts as you can.

Create accounts and follow the instructions for each social bookmarking service. You can’t make a mistake here. All you want is to have your site “in there”. You can’t specify anchor text; so it’s strictly just your site, a description and some tags.

I list some software in a chapter below and plus I give you guys a solid action plan, so there is no worries!

Articles

We all know about submitting articles to article directories, you would simply create an informative article based around the keyword you are targeting.

You want to submit your article to the TOP 7 article directories because they have high pagerank and can build the authority of your site!

Here are the TOP 7 article directories and their pagerank!

1. EZine Articles PR6 – www.ezinearticles.com
2. Amazines PR4 – www.amazines.com
3. Article Alley PR5 – www.articlealley.com
4. Article City PR5 – www.articlecity.com
5. Article Clicl PR5 – www.articleclick.com
6. Article Rich PR2 – www.articlerich.com
7. Article Trader PR3 – www.articletrader.com

Now submitting articles to these article directories is fine and dandy but you always want to maximize your efforts and spread your content to as many sites as possible so you gain more authority on the web!

There is a new form of article marketing that just jumped on the scene last year. There are several networks these days that will take your article and post it to hundreds of blogs/websites.

The great thing about this you can spread your links and content across hundreds of related blogs, which looks good in Google’s eyes. The key here is to write quality articles so that these blog owners will approve of your content. They will most likely approve, since they need more content on their blogs.

Here are a few article syndicate networks:

Yahoo Answers

http://answers.yahoo.com

This is another quick and easy way to build links to your site, I personally don’t use this method anymore because it requires more work and plus yahoo changes their terms, like every week!

Be careful with this though, Yahoo is prone to catching on to, too many posts, i.e. your questions/answers.

Squidoo

www.squidoo.com

Everyone knows about Squidoo, how well their pages rank in Google, take the power of these pages to get your own site ranked in the SERPS!

Setup your profile and create Squidoo pages based around your keywords so that your pages will not only give you a link back but also rank for the keyword you are targeting.

EDU Links

.EDU and .GOV links are like gold because Google loves them! This shows that you are linking to a reputable site and therefore builds your authority

Many .edu web pages are blogs created by college students from the school. You can do a simple Google search, like so:

You can copy/paste this code into Google search and find a bunch of related .edu blogs to comment on. Be sure to make your comments informative or entertaining!

Here is an example of a college blog: http://users.cis.fiu.edu/~mpill001/finance-info/2008/08/the-different-options-you-can-avail-to-learn-forex-trading/

If you visit that link you will find a nice blog setup where you can comment on that post and receive a POWERFUL .edu backlink to your site!

LinkedIn

www.linkedin.com

This is another easy way to build “do follow” links on a high page rank site! You would simply create a profile and list your sites in your profile with your keyword as the anchor text!

Flickr – The Secret Sauce!

www.flickr.com

I call this the secret sauce because not too many know that you can get high page rank, do follow links from Flickr and other photo sharing sites!

To gain a link from Flickr you would simply upload a picture and make the alt text your target keyword. That is too easy, NOT to do! If you look all the MySpace graphics sites that are making six figures with the Google Adsense, you will notice that all of their links come from photo sharing sites!

1 Way Link Networks

There’s a lot of skepticism about if 1 way link networks work or not. Some of you are probably asking…”What is a 1 way link network?”

Simply put, you will input your site into a network where other sites can link to yours and vice versa. This builds links on each other’s pages but you will never link to the same site (hope that made sense). So all the while your site is continuously building Backlinks without you lifting a finger.

The 1 way link networks that I recommend is: www.1waylinks.net

This network was built by a very good SEO expert and internet marketer named Jon Leger. I have over a dozen sites in their network, all gaining good Backlinks!

Tracking Your Results

It is very important to track your results so that you can not only gain the motivation to keep going but to see where your traffic is actually coming from!

You may be ranking for keywords and have no idea, I usually check my stats to see where most of my traffic is coming from and I will come up with ways to increase the traffic from that source. If you’re not tracking your results how will you know how to improve the SEO on your site?

To track all your traffic I recommend:

Google Analytics – www.google.com/analytics

This is hands down the BEST tracking software you will find on the net and plus it’s FREE. If you’re not using Google Analytics, there is something terribly wrong. This should be in every internet marketer’s toolbox!
You’re Action Plan!

If you didn’t get anything out of this ebook, it will be this action plan, after reviewing it you never think that SEO is hard task!

This is the same process I go through when setting up a new site! If you follow this brain dead simple process you will be ranking in the SERPS in no TIME!

1. Keyword Research
2. Check Your On-Page factors
3. Create a Linkbuilding campaign – choose from the huge list of Linkbuilding methods I outlined in this ebook!

Well there you have it! I hope you’ve enjoyed this ebook, but most importantly I hoped you learned something. I spelt the beans on all my SEO and Linkbuilding techniques.

If you follow all of these techniques to a “T” and add your own flavor to it, there isn’t any keyword that you cannot rank for!

To YOUR Success,

SEO Resources

I just wanted to list some websites and blogs you can use to increase your SEO knowledge. You will never know everything there is to know about SEO, but you can sure TRY!
It’s important to continually grow your expertise in this area!

If you want to learn more about SEO, here are a few notable sites:

List of Safe Automation Tools

It’s important to use as many automation tools as possible. You can only do so much and if you have software automating some of your tasks, you can get more stuff done and increase your PROFITS!

Here is a list of tools that I use and why I use them!

1. SENuke – www.senuke.com

This is my #1 recommendation! This software is heaven sent; you can submit your content to over a dozen social networking, web 2.0 sites with the click of a button.

Not only that…it will also social bookmark any content you may have and submit your videos to the major video sharing sites. If you were to buy any software for your search engine efforts it would be this!

2. Bookmarking Demon – www.bookmarkingdemon.com

This is an automated social bookmarking tool; it creates accounts and submits your sites to social bookmarking sites all on autopilot! Be careful with this though; do not abuse its power!

3. JetSubmitter – www.jetsubmitter.com

This is server based software that will submit unique articles to over 600 article directories. The great thing about this is you don’t have no interaction with the submission of each article it works on the web in the background.

One other perk is that it will submit a different version of your article to each article directory. Visit the site for a FULL video explanation!

4. CommentKahuna – www.commentkahuna.com

In the blog commenting chapter I explained how valuable commenting on other blogs can be for you SEO efforts and branding awareness. This software finds and automates most of the commenting for you, so you can get more done, FASTER!

5. Need An Article – www.need-an-article.com

Okay so this is not so much an automation tool but it’s an outsourcing resource where you can get articles written in most cases less than 24 hours! These are written by humans and not robots, so the quality is usually GREAT!

That about wraps it up. I hope by going through these last few posts you have a better understanding on what it takes to rank your site in the search engines. SEO is an ever evolving “thing” and we will constantly be on the lookout for newer and newer ways to make your site pop. Good Luck!

On Page Search Engine Optimization – Part 3

On Page SEO

This is where SEO starts, plain and simple; if your site is not optimized for the keywords you are targeting, you’ve lost the battle before you’ve even started.

Hopefully you have had a chance to go through part 1 search engines explained and part 2 search engine rankings and keywords. This will make more sense if that is the case.

In this post I will be pointing out the key features your site needs so that your site looks professionally optimized to the search engines! On page factors are just as important as building links and other aspects involved getting your site to the TOP!

Title & META Tags

Your Title and META tags are the first thing the search engine spiders see when visiting your site! Be sure that your home page TITLE tag is related to the keywords you identified!

Using the “forex” example from the keyword research chapter this is how it would be done!

keyword tool

As you can see I added the TOP 3 keywords to the title and the 5 keywords to the META keyword area. There are some other SEO META tags that I included so that your sites get indexed faster!

Here is the META tag sequence I use on all my sites that gives me top rankings! Feel free to use as a template!

keyword tool

Important Pages to Include

Here is a list of pages that you must include on your website. The spiders (search engine bots) will go to crawl your site and will be looking for these pages, you can simply put them in the footer or wherever you like.

1. Contact Page – It’s crucial that your prospects/visitors have a way of contacting you.

2. Disclaimer – If your sell products or information in particular on your site, it is a good idea to use a disclaimer to keep your visitors, in the “know”.

3. Privacy Policy – Spam used to be a big issue and mostly everyone hates it! Let your visitors know that you will keep the information you gather from them safe, i.e. their email address.

4. Sitemap – This makes it easy for the spiders to scan your site, making each page on your site available for anyone to see. It gives your webpage more structure. I will go over how to create a sitemap further in the ebook.

5. Five pages of Content – Google and other search engines look at how much quality content you have on your website that is relevant to the keywords you are targeting. Be sure to have at least 5 articles/web pages with quality content on them.

Creating a Sitemap

These days creating a sitemap is very easy; there are FREE automated tools that will do this for you. You want to have a sitemap on your site because it will make scanning your site a lot faster, thus indexing you’re all your webpage’s a lot of faster.

The spiders will visit your sitemap and see all the pages that your website includes, instead looking at the one by one. So here’s how to create the file…you would simply go to:

www.xml-sitemaps.com

You would simply enter your website URL and it will return an XML file that you would upload to your server to appear on your site! This is too easy NOT to do it!

Robots.txt File

I don’t want to go all nerdy on you and throw a whole bunch of techie stuff your way but it is important to know what your site needs. As more and more people catch on to the power of marketing on the internet, the more valuable this information becomes!

So what is a robots.txt file? It’s basically a text file that’s created with notepad or any compatible text editor. You can add certain web pages on your site that you DO NOT want the search engines to crawl.

The reason for this could be to keep your download page for your customers from showing up in the SERPS or showing duplicate content on your site. This way it won’t seem like your spamming the search engines with non-sense.

Even if you don’t have any web pages that DO NOT want to show up in the SERPS it is a good idea to have one uploaded and on your site so the search engines know that you’re playing by the rules!

So here’s how you create a “Robots.txt” file, these are very simply to make despite the name.

Like I stated before you would simply open notepad or your favorite text editor. This lines you will enter in this text file are as follows:

User-Agent: [Spider or Bot name]

Disallow: [Directory or file name]

It’s pretty much self explanatory; you tell which spider, i.e. Google, MSN or Yahoo not to crawl the “Disallow” listed sites. That’s all to it, too easy right?

Let me give you a few examples so you know exactly how this should look when you create your robots.txt file.

Let’s say you DO NOT want the Google bots (spiders) from crawling a particular page on your site. This is how it would look:

keyword tool

If you want to allow the spiders to index everything on your site and just want to have the robots.txt file on your site for good measures. This is how it would look. Feel free to copy/paste for your own use!

keyword tool

Submitting Your Site to the SERPS

This is the first step to getting your site recognized by the search engines! There are free and paid ways you can submit your site to 100s of search engines with the click of a button.

1. The Free Waywww.submitexpress.com

Here you simply input your sites URL and it will submit to over 40+ search engines. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

keyword tool

2. The Paid Waywww.submitedge.com

SubmitEdge offers a variety of link building services and they are worth checking out! You can submit your site to 200+ search engines for $29 with no work on your part.

keyword tool

If your budget permits, this is a GREAT idea, its gets those spiders crawling your site!

Super Linkbuilding

Building links is also known as “Off-Page SEO”. It’s all about the links, in most cases; the site with the most links will win in an SEO battle! Provided that the site is optimized for that certain keyword and followed all the On-Page SEO criteria.

How to Build Links & Use Anchor Text

You want to build your links in a way that looks natural to the search engines. I would say about 10 – 20 links per day will do.

Now about your anchor text, for those who don’t know what anchor text is, here is the definition right from Wikipedia:

The anchor text, link label or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. The words contained in the Anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines.

You want to alternate your keywords for anchor text (if that made sense) so the keyword usage for anchor text would look something like this:

Keyword #1: Use 70% of the time for anchor text
Keyword #2: Use 20% of the time
Keyword #3: Use 10% of the time
Keyword #4: Use 5% of the time
Keyword #5: Use 5% of the time

Now you don’t have to go by those numbers exactly but close to it will make sure that the search engine bots done recognize your site for spamming for one keyword, with the sole intention of ranking for a certain keyword.

Now to the fun stuff! Below you will find close to a dozen ways to build links! I go over where to find these links and some tips and tricks for each!

Forums

Many people overlook the power of forum marketing but it has so many benefits it’s not even funny. I say the only down fall is that it takes a long time to do this right!

Forum marketing is one of the many ways to generate a lot of Backlinks to your website; it can also send a lot of traffic to your site, which will help you, get more sales or email subscribers.

There is definitely no shortage in niche communities, you can find a forum in just about any niche you can think of these days! I found one a few weeks ago on Bee Keeping; I mean who would of thought?

You can instantly build a good reputation in these communities and reach out to your prospects with just a few forum posts and a very enticing signature that shows them the links to your website.

Remember to start off slow when jumping into a conversation at these forums because the advocates in the group will notice your trying to sale something from the start! It’s important to be discreet and find some common ground with people!

You don’t want to bust onto the scene, spamming the threads with a lot of “me, too!” responses, because it won’t be long before you find yourself banned or simply ignored.

Be helpful, share tips, resources and information, and approach forum marketing in a similar way that you would approach social networking, by offering help and slowly building awareness of your brand.

This is how you will search for forums in your niche market. You would simply do a Google search like so:

keyword tool

Just replace “forex trading” with your main keyword and dozens of forums will pop up for your niche!

When creating your signature box, be sure to feature a free report or resource to entice people to click your link in the same way that you would create your article marketing resource boxes.

The easiest way to direct traffic to your website from a forum is by offering something of value, at no cost.
Focus on building a list of active subscribers that you can follow up with in the future with both free content, balanced out with promotional offers.

To locate some of the TOP forums with a lot of traffic, simply visit:

www.Big-Boards.com They show you how many members and posts a particular forum has, to make sure there is a lot of traffic there. This is a very good resource for Forum Marketing.

Blogs

I outsource my blog commenting, if I want to do it in mass. If I’m in the internet marketing niche, I usually spend a few hours writing the comments myself because you want to say something meaningful in your comments.

This is for 2 reasons:

1. So your comments will get approved
2. You build a solid online reputation
Of course there is software to automate you finding blogs that will give your sites some good Backlinks!

We have gone a little further than we planned in this post, but that is to your benefit! In our next and final post on this topic we will discuss Web 2.0 properties and social bookmarking. With the information we have covered so far you should be on your way to better rankings.

Search Engine Rankings and Keywords – Part 2

If you have not read through part 1, search engines explained, please do so before continuing. Things will make more sense!

Time to get into the good stuff. You really need to bookmark us if you have not done so.

Bulletproof Keyword Research

The way I like to do keyword research is just about foolproof! The reason I say this is because most people complain that SEO doesn’t work and that it takes a long time before they see results.

That is mostly true if you’re targeting the WRONG keywords!

If you’re shooting for keywords that have massive competition of course your results will come much slower. The odds are already stacked against you. What I do is focus on the low-hanging fruit.

This way I can get quicker results and getting traffic becomes easier! These keywords have average traffic but it you target 3 or 4 it can add up really quickly. There are about 20 steps to this keyword research system. It may seem overwhelming at first but it works 100% of the time!

Alright, let’s get into it!

1. Use the Google Keyword Tool to start your keyword research. For SEO, they are the most accurate and receive the most traffic out of all the search engines on the net!

We are going to use forex trading as our example. First, enter your main keyword which is “forex trading” (without quotes). You will end up with about 200 keywords.

keyword tool

Go to the end of each section and “Add all…” you want to add all the keywords to the right side so you can export them. (You can add more search variations to come up with more keywords if you like.)

2. You want to export them as a text file shown below:

keyword tool

It should open as a text file, leave it open for now.

3. Log into your Google Adwords account. If you do not have an Adwords account it is crucial that you get one setup immediately! Simply visit the Adwords signup page.

4. Next, log into your Adwords account and find the “Tools” link in the toolbar. Go to “Traffic Estimator”.

5. Enter all the keywords from the .txt file you downloaded from Google keyword tool. You will also have to enter what countries you are trying to get traffic from. Next, you will simply click “Continue”.

6. Now the “Traffic Estimator” has given you a lot of data, but we are NOT concerned with that at this point. All you have to do now is click “Download as .csv”

keyword tool

7. This will return yet another Notepad file, don’t worry about what it looks like you will just be copying and pasting it. Yes, it will look like this:

keyword tool

8. Next you will need to grab this free software called “Keyword Corral” so you can analyze these keywords and see which ones have low competition! (You do need to submit a valid email but for the power of the software it is a trade that is much more than fair!)

9. After you’ve downloaded the software save each of the notepad files to your desktop, name them something you can remember.

10. Next you will open “Keyword Corral” and click “Open source file” and select the notepad file you downloaded from Google’s Traffic Estimator. It should be named estimates.csv

Once you do that, it will list all your keywords and now by selecting a group of keyword you can get the competition of each. Hold CTRL and click on the keywords you want to get data on.

Or you can press CTRL+A to select all.

11. Next you will press “Get Competition”. This will give you the number of sites that are currently optimized in the search engines for that particular keyword.

keyword tool

It make take awhile to pull the data from Google, so just sit back and wait for the results.

12. Now you have data on your competition. Be sure to SORT by competition. Anything under 6,000 means it is relatively easy to rank for. See screenshot below:

keyword tool

This means that less than 6,000 websites are optimized for that keyword! This is easy pikins’ compared to the more competitive keywords which may return results of a few hundred thousand or the hyper competitve words that will have results in the millions.

13. Now we want to create filter, that weeds these 6,000 and below keywords out. Simply click “filter” and set competition like so:

keyword tool

Then click “Apply Filter” at the top.

14. Save keywords by selecting the button at the top. It will save it as a .txt (notepad) file, save it on your desktop for easy reference.

keyword tool

15. Return back to “Google Keyword Tool” and copy & paste the keywords you just filtered from “Keyword Corral”.

Make sure you filter your Google keyword results to “Don’t show ideas”:

keyword tool

This way you only have results for the keywords you identified with low competition.

16. Now these are the results that we come up with and they are looking pretty good!

keyword tool

As you can see these low competition keywords are getting TONS of traffic and barely anyone is optimizing for them! That means you can go in and gobble up some of that traffic from Google!

I would generally choose the first 5 keywords, so in this example I would choose:

keyword tool

That’s over 112,600 searches per month, if you’re able to capture just half of that traffic; that’s over 60,000 visitors per month! It won’t be hard either since we’ve identified these keywords as having low competition.

17. Now you would simply build links around those keywords with low competition to get easy rankings in the search engines!

I hope I didn’t confuse you up there but that is the same science I use to rank in the search engines within a matter of weeks!

The only thing you have to do to rank for those keywords is build links with those keywords as anchor text.

Anchor text is the clickable text that leads a person to your website!

The formula for keyword research alone was worth the price of this ebook, hands down! Oh wait, you’re getting it for FREE!

All righty then…. I think that’s enough to chew on for now. Spend some time with different keywords and niches that you may be interested in. We will have part 3 ready in a few days. Next up we will discuss on page and off page optimization techniques.

Search Engines Explained – Part 1

Search Engines Explained

I understand that many of you are coming from different levels of knowledge, some of you know little to nothing about ranking in the SERPS, some of you have a little knowledge but not enough to DOMINATE and the rest of you probably know enough about SEO to rank high for certain keywords.

With that said I want to cover the basics for that first group and as you go through this ebook you will feel the “snowball effect”. This is where you will constantly pick up new ideas until you reach the end where you’ll have all the knowledge you need to DOMINATE the SERPS.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is basically performing small tasks on and to your website so that the search engine spiders can crawl (look over) your site so they can include it in their directory, this is also known as getting indexed.

A spider is a robot that the search engines use to scour the web and check millions of millions of websites at super speeds. Since there are millions of sites being built each day, there is no way you or any company can keep up with a task such as that. These spiders index and sort web pages by relevance, so your web page shows up in the search engines when it is appropriate for the keyword you are targeting.

Keywords

All activity on the web starts with a keyword! People get on the internet to search for something and they generally go to the search engines to find this information. When a topic is searched in the search engines, the most relevant sites will show up first! These sites have optimized their web pages to show up first in the SERPS. Web pages with the TOP rankings get all the traffic for absolutely NO cost!

Most prospects/searchers only look at the TOP 3 results of any search engine listing! So you can’t be dangling at the bottom of the results page expecting to get traffic!

What are Algorithms?

Now that we know how your web page shows up in the search engines it’s important to understand what an algorithm is. Wikipedia says…

An algorithm is a finite sequence of instructions, an explicit, step-by-step procedure for solving a problem, often used for calculation and data processing. It is formally a type of effective method in which a list of well-defined instructions for completing a task…

So basically what this is saying is, the search engines critique your sites based on certain criteria to see where it will rank in their results. Some of these criteria include:

1. Location & Frequency of keywords on your web page
2. Amount of links pointing to your site
3. How your website is structure
4. How relevant & unique your content is

What is Pagerank?

I felt it necessary to include this inside this ebook because it plays an important role when you begin building links. I think Wikipedia is much better at explaining things, so here is the definition from Wikipedia:

Pagerank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set.

A website can have a pagerank of 1 – 10, obviously the higher the pagerank the better! When you are finding sites to link to yours, it is important to find those links that have high pagerank (PR).

3 Major Search Engines

When doing your search engine optimization you want to focus your efforts on the search engines that will bring in the most traffic. Obviously Google is going to be the #1 contender!

Below is the percentage amount of search traffic that the TOP 3 search engines receive:

pie chart

Google = 61% — Yahoo = 30% — Bing = 9%

As you can see Google is crushing its competitors. Yahoo only receives half as much traffic as Google does.

I generally focus all my SEO efforts on Google because not only do they have the most traffic but once you show up in their results the other search engines will start catching on and you will get traffic from them also.

That’s it for today. In our next post we will begin to get into the meat of search optimization beginning with keywords and keyword research. It’s not as hard as you may think.

Go to part two search engine rankings and keywords.

We will post the entire book over the next couple of weeks.

Introduction

I want you to receive this information in a usable format, plain and simple! After finishing this course, getting ranked in the search engines (Google in particular) will be sooooo easy! Getting traffic to your site doesn’t have to be hard.

I always like to begin any material I write with a little pep talk, kind of like a coach before a football game… This is so you will actually put what you learn here to use! It makes my day to receive success stories from customers and friends.

After reading this information, read it again and implement the strategies that you’ve learned. Do it immediately! I see so many people including myself, purchase information just so it can sit on your hard drive to collect dust!

You must take Action

It is the reason you are reading this right now. Of course getting high rankings in the SERPS (Search Engine Result Pages) takes time & energy but the results can be tremendous and last for years to come!

How To Rank Quickly

This is the follow up to our previous post “not really guru bashing“. By far the most common question we receive is “how do I get ranked” and “how can it happen quickly?”

For the average person it can happen quickly if done correctly. Of course what you need to realize is the more competitive your market is, the harder it will be to rank for your keywords.

This is why we recommend that if you are just starting out you stay away from the “make money online” market. This niche is arguably the most cut throat and competitive niche online. If you do not bring your “A” game to this market you will get your butt kicked, lose money, and most likely quit altogether.

I know you probably get bombed with emails from the “gurus” all telling you that they have the answers to how you make money. Just spend whatever the cost is for their program, usually somewhere between $197 and $1997, plus maybe an ongoing monthly coaching program, and you are all set. Get ready to run to the bank

Good luck with that!

We say, start small and learn how to tread water before you decide to swim with the sharks. You need to make your first dollar online before you can make your millions.

With that said, we want to get into the most basic ways for you to get traffic quickly. Without traffic you will never sell anything, so it all starts here.

The five basic methods are as follows:

* Pay Per Click Advertising
* Using Press Release Services
* Blog Commenting and Advertising
* Forum Commenting and Advertising
* Article Marketing

There are of course other ways to get traffic but we feel these are the most effective and likely quickest way to get the hits rolling for you.

Pay per click is the fastest way to start getting traffic as you can post an ad on AdWords, Yahoo or Bing and begin receiving traffic literally within minutes in some cases. The downside to PPC is of course the cost associated with this method. You can spend a bunch of money before you really know if your site or offer is even going to convert. Also with Google cracking down on affiliates, PPC is getting more and more difficult unless you really know what you are doing. You need to have a landing page, you need to know how to optimize your landing page and you really need to know your competition.

Press release services can be very effective if you are a decent writer. Some press services are free and some will charge a fee. We have used both in the past and the free services take a bit longer to get your release posted but the end result is both are about equally effective. The catch here is that your release will be human edited and it really needs to be well written. If this is not a strength of yours you can go to Elance and hire a ghost writer for $25-$50 to write a 400-500 word release for you.

Blog commenting is just what it sounds like. You can search for blogs that are similar to whatever product it is that you will be promoting and start commenting on them. Be careful not to spam. You should take a moment to actually read through the posts and make an intelligent, thought out contribution to the blog. In many cases you will be able to add a link back to your site with anchor text which is even better.

Many sites now run plug ins called keyword luv and comment luv. We run that on our site. You can check it out here to see how it works. Again, do not just do a “drive by” and say something idiotic like “nice post”. Add value to the conversation and it will be much more likely that your post and links get approved.

Forum commenting is similar to blog commenting. The difference here is that you want to get involved in forums that are in the same niche as what you want to promote but you also want to be able to provide help and advice in your posts. Many people in forums will be there to ask questions. If you can help with an answer many times you can create a signature files that would include your URL and be permitted to sign any of your posts with that signature which would of course be a link back to your site.

But, our favorite way to get links out there quickly is with article marketing.

Article Marketing is quick and very effective. With the proper software you can literally get your site linked to dozens and dozens of times with the submission of just one article. There are many article sites out there that you can publish to, and in most cases you will be able to use an anchor text link at the bottom of your article in a resource box that will have information on the author of the article. The author of course would be you.

Many people are scared that they will not be able to write articles for themselves. This is not nearly as difficult as many people think. For a few dollars you can search PLR article sites looking for PLR (private label rights) articles about your chosen subject. You would then take those articles and use them as a basis for your articles. You can do this by using the PLR articles as a template.

We suggest you rewrite the article in your own words as you never know how many other people will have that same article. You want to make yourself as unique as possible. Using PLR articles as templates is one of the easiest ways to do that. But we do stress – do NOT just copy the PLR articles without re-writing them in your own words. You need to be unique, and using articles in this way will save you boat loads of time as opposed to writing totally from scratch.

You then have a few choices. I am a big fan of automation myself and prefer to pay a few dollars upfront to save a boatload of time and effort but still get the same results. Basically you can sign up for dozens and dozens of article submission sites and go through the process of submitting your articles one by one. If you have hours of extra time on your hands this may work for you.

The other option is to get a little piece of software known as an article spinner and article submission software. This type of software will save you tons of time and effort by automatically spinning and submitting your articles to HUNDREDS of article directories.

However not all spinners and submitters are equal.

We have actually bought 4 different pieces of software that claim to do this work for you. I am only going to name the one we still use as it is head and shoulders above the rest of the field. One of the submitters we bought just plain sucked. Two others were barely OK but were very limited in what they could do. One cost over $100 but limited the number of sites that they submitted to, to about 20 directories. Both of the two that were just barely OK still made you go out and sign up for and verify each individual directory account. Ouch!

With that being said, we stumbled upon a piece of software, two pieces actually, one was the article spinner itself and the other was the mass article submitter. The spinner is just awesome as it lets you create dozens of different versions of your article. This is critical to prevent the duplicate content penalty. The other submits the spun article to up to 700 different article directories.

The truly awesome part of that is the fact that the software not only auto submits the articles in about 5 minutes it also goes out and signs you up for the 700 directories automatically. This would take you days to do individually. All you need to supply is a gmail account that you will sign up for for free. This is the account you will use to verify all of your directory sign ups. Don’t worry though, through an IMAP connection in gmail, the software does that automatically also.

The long and the short of it is we can write an article and submit it to a few hundred sites (each submission with 2 anchor text backlinks) and have a couple of hundred backlinks to our site with just an hour or so of work. Pretty sweet indeed.

If you are at all serious about getting your site ranked quickly you should check out the software that can make it happen for you.

In our next post we will talk a little about social bookmarking and how that improves rankings if done correctly.

Not Really Guru Bashing

Permit me to go on a bit of a rant here. I am sure this will resonate with anyone who has spent any time online trying to make money.

Back in the day it was pretty easy. My first bit of success online was with ebay in 2000 through early 2002. Ebay started to get a bit saturated at that point and making money began to get more and more difficult. I stopped doing Ebay completely towards the end of 2003.

There began my odyssey for the next wave in making money online. This led to the early years of affiliate marketing and Google AdWords. Again, back in the old days (2004 and 2005) AdWords was simple. Kind of like taking candy from a baby. All you had to do was throw up an ad group with a bunch of keywords and boom, you were making money.

Alas, this too came to an end. The easy money disappeared sometime around 2005 give or take. Some niches lasted longer than others of course, but fast forward to today, and playing with AdWords is like swimming in a shark tank.

That is not to say you can’t make money anymore this way, but you really need to know what you are doing. To say competition is fierce is quite the understatement. We would recommend newbies that insist on trying pay per click start with Yahoo or the MSN ad platforms as they are not quite as saturated yet and seem to be a bit more forgiving.

Which leads us to our rant. Over the years we have followed pretty much all of the top gun gurus. We are on all of the big dog email marketing lists. We do this for a couple of reasons. One is that we feel it is the least expensive learning experience you can get online. Some of the top line copy these guys write (or pay to have written) is priceless. You can learn much just by reading the emails. Another reason is to keep a finger on the pulse of “what is currently hot”.

The theme we see today is that there seems to be an “inner circle” of these guys who promote the crap out of each others lists in a kind of “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” sort of way. They do this through sales incentives, contests and joint ventures with special deals to each other among other things.

Of course there is nothing wrong with this per se. We just feel that it is not always done in the best interest of the people who end up buying these big expensive courses.

So where are we today? You hear much about PPC which is pay per click advertising. You also hear a lot about CPA which is cost per action. You can build websites and sell your own products or other peoples through affiliate marketing. You can attempt to monetize traffic through Adsense or Yahoo publishing. You can blog, you can flog. You can create and sell software. I could go on and on here of course, as there are limitless ways to make money online.

But it all still comes back to one thing. Traffic. How do you put eyeballs on your website or online offer? The great irony here is that it seems like things are regressing back to what originally worked.

Links and content. Build quality incoming links to your site and provide unique quality content and you will get traffic. It’s that simple. It’s always been that simple. The trouble is people abused this with automated content generating software that produced nothing but keyword rich gibberish.

That worked for a while but the search engines are a lot smarter today and getting smarter all the time. What worked then no longer works today. But the theory is still the same.

Quality Incoming Links + Unique Quality Content = Traffic.

Check out our next post. We will discuss one of the fastest and easiest ways to generate those links and content and get your site to rank quickly.

Setting Up Your Online Business

The number of online job opportunities is growing exponentially. Some people, in fact, get a great chunk of their income from doing online jobs. However, not all online jobs can deliver their promise of big salaries and rewards. Worse, many are scams. But there are more online opportunities aside from online jobs. Starting an online business is one. Working for an online business—yours of course—is a good way to earn money while enjoying your independence.

The Advantages

Starting your online business means you work for yourself. And because you are your own boss, you set your own work schedule, you don’t answer to anyone, and you most likely determine your own success. Your promotion and raise are not in someone else’s hands, but in yours. In other words, you control your own pace.

An online business is also the easiest avenue for you to start the business venture you have been brewing in your mind, as it is much easier to fund than to put up say a brick and mortar business. You don’t have to rent a space, hire regular staff, or pay for utility bills; you only need to have a decent computer and Internet connection. So if, for instance, the business you are interested in requires huge start-up capital, you can first try it out as an online business and expand it once you have established its presence and credibility.

Because an online business can be run anytime and anywhere, it gives you much flexibility. You can respond to queries from pretty much anywhere with an internet connection. You can control your time, work any time you want to, and take a vacation if you see fit.

Create The Heart Of The Business

Setting up an online business, however, is not as easy as many people think. You see a lot of opportunities that say you do not need a website. I say, bull. You will need a website and you will need to learn some basic technical stuff like FTP and HTML. You also need to do comprehensive research, careful planning, and critical decision-making. And the first thing you have to decide on is the type of business you want to put up and the product or service you are going to offer. Only then can you create the heart of your online business – your website.

Following are the things you need to consider when building a website. Study them well and see how you can work them out.

1. Domain name. A good domain name is one that is strongly associated to the offered product or service. It should be short, have good recall, and be easy to read. Though it should be unique, the domain name shouldn’t have complicated spelling. It’s also important to make as many versions as you can in case your first choice has already been taken. For about $10 a year you can have your domain name registered.

2. Web host. Having a web host costs only a few dollars a month. Though you have the option to host your website using free blog sites, paying for a web host gives your business a professional and credible appeal. Make sure to get a first-rate web host to ensure that your website is always functional.

3. Web design and layout. The overall web design and layout should reflect the nature of your business and your product or service. It should be easy to browse and easy on the eyes. Since the general look of your website can also draw or fend off visitors, you have to be very meticulous with the design and layout. Remember that without visitors, working your online business isn’t possible.

Some people may not be ready for their own business and would instead prefer to work for someone from home first. If this is the case just be careful of the many scams that prey on people who are trying to work from home.

Here are some of the warning signs of online job scams. If you spot any of them in your potential job, trash it. You might be looking at a scam.

1. Asks for money. If a potential employer charges fees for more job and company information, start-up kit, training, software, or hiring you, it is most likely a scam.

2. Describes itself as legitimate. If what is said about a job is more on its legitimacy but less on the company, pay, nature, and other important details, beware. This is probably just one of the marketing strategies.

3. Promises big and quick cash. Forget jobs that say, “Get rich quick. Earn $1000 weekly.” Or anything of that nature. The truth is, no job can promise you fast financial success. It takes time. It takes hard work. Such claims are typical of scams.

4. Requires no experience or skill at all. A real job needs to be done by qualified individuals. If an employer says there is little effort needed on your part, forget it. A legitimate employer wouldn’t entrust an important job to unreliable people. It would be a waste of their time and money.

5. Comes from an unsolicited email. A job posting you know you haven’t applied to and which appears in an unsolicited email message is most often a scam. Coming from an unsolicited email message, in itself, is quite suspicious.

6. Has a questionable website. A legitimate company normally provides complete contact details on its website. The absence of which might be an indicative it is a scam. If it also tells less about the company history, nature, and what it stands for, be careful.

What To Do

The rule of thumb when looking for legitimate online jobs is to do thorough research. If you find a company rather dubious, look it up on the web by typing the company name and the word “scam” in the search box. The search results can give you a good indication of whether a company is reputable.

You can also contact the employer. Ask for important details about the job such as the salary, mode of payment, and other job details not mentioned in the ad post. If the response is somewhat shady, you may want to skip that job altogether. An employer will tell all the job details upfront if it is legitimate.

Ask for a list of references. It should include the company’s employees and contractors. Not all companies will provide this but it never hurts to ask. Remember, you need to be very careful and decisive when taking on a potential job, as working online scams are growing in number.

Trapped In The Google Sandbox

Like Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster, many people have heard of the Google sandbox and wonder if it is real or is it an old wives tale. We have been doing search optimization and pay per click for many years and have heard arguments both for and against the sandbox. Personally, we think it does exist in some form.

What Is The Sandbox?

The easiest way to explain the Google sandbox is to think of it like a penalty box. Many people new to internet marketing are told that the more incoming links they have, the merrier in the eyes of the search engines. Way back in the day, (maybe 7 or 8 years) that may have been true. But just like anything else, the search engines get smarter and smarter every year. As the engines evolve so do the ranking algorithms they use. In layman’s terms, these are just the formulas the different search engines use when they spider your page. Each search engine uses different criteria to rank your page.

How Do I Stay Out Of The Sandbox?

Quite simply the way to stay out of the sandbox is to take things slowly from the outset. When you first get your site online DO NOT hire a service or spend money on the latest greatest link building service that promises you “1000 backlinks to your site in just 3 days”. We can promise you it is a waste of your time and hard earned money and ultimately may end up hurting your rankings from the get go. It is much better to take it slow and easy. Search engines today are too smart to fall for a brand new site with 1000 links. They would much rather see a slow build in backlinks as it seems much more natural.

With the right mixture of keyword optimization, meta tags, social bookmarking, quality backlinks with a few high quality articles sprinkled in, you may be surprised how fast you can rise to the top of the search engines. Done correctly you will end up at the top more quickly and more securely than you may imagine.

Feel free to drop us a line to discuss your goals and see if we can help you get there.

Take a peek at the video below where we show you how we got this very site ranked for a couple of very competitive terms in about 3 weeks.

SEO is more of an art whereas pay per click is pretty much a science. With pay per click you know if you spend enough money and have your landing pages set up properly, you will be able to push yourself to the front page of Google, Yahoo or Bing. With the organic listings it is a little more like Goldilocks. Can’t be too hot or too cold, it has to be “just right” to land yourself on page one.

If you can see the value in what we have to offer, you really do need to contact us. We will take a no obligation look at your business and tell you upfront whether we feel we can help you. You do not pay a dime for us to take a look under the hood so to speak.

Do Follow, Keyword Luv & Top Commentor

This is a do follow and Keyword Luv blog.  We are also running Top Commentor.  Feel free to leave a relevant link back to your site.  There are but a few rules.  No adult material, swearing or hate speech.  Posts that we deem inappropriate will be removed and your I.P address banned.  We do not ask much, but please play by the rules.  This is a tool to benefit everyone.

Please take a minute to at least read the post you are commenting on.  You can not leave an intelligent reply if you do not at least take 30 seconds to read a post.  It will be worth it.

With our keyword luv plug in you will be able to leave your anchor text in your reply field thereby giving you a much stronger backlink to your site.

PLEASE READ so your post turns out correctly.  When you are commenting, in the name field of the form just put your name  and then the @ sign.  Everything after the @ sign will show up as click-able text (IE your anchor text).  So if your site is www.yourdomain.com  you would want to post in the name field of the form like this

you@yourname where “yourname” is the anchor text that you want to point back to your site.  It can be anything you want it to say provided it is clean.

Then enter your email address on the next line and then your website on the next line.  The site address you enter here is where the text from above will go to.  Then post your comment and you are done.

Again, please don’t abuse this.  You will only end up banned and ruin it for everyone else.
